St. Giovanni of Asso

The land of the white truffle

In middle of the Siena's Clays there is St. Giovanni of Asso.

The town is located at the top of a hill up the Asso river valley.

It was the seat of rural Etruscan settlements.

St. Giovanni of Asso was contended between the bishop of Arezzo and the bishop of Siena.

In the 1315 the Ghibellini destroyed it.

To the top of town, known as "Borghetto", there is the ancient castle, where, in Novembre, hosts the White Truffle Market Exhibit.

San Giovanni d'Asso

St. Giovanni of Asso is a big agricultural center of production of the white truffle, of excellent oil of olive and wine and savoury cheeses.

We recommend the visit to the St. Giovanni of Asso in November, during the White Truffle Market Exhibit.
