The Consortia

To the purpose of protect and promote the image of the Noble Wine of Montepulciano in Italy and in the world in the November of the 1965 it has born the Consortium of the Noble Wine of Montepulciano.

The work of promotion of the Noble Wine of Montepulciano has realized with the share of the Consortium to the more qualified demonstrations to national and international level.

The quality is guaranteed from the Consortium, beginning to disposition of the partners two errands of wine expert with the assignment of follow the varied phases of the wine making and the aging of the wine directly in the wine cellars.

Finally a specific errand of tasting checks the wines and only those that they overcome the examination comes presented to the errand named from the Office of the Agriculture.

Also the diffusion of the classical vines in the territory has checked from the Consortium.

The "Denomination of Checked and Guaranteed Origin" it does of the Noble Wine one between the best of the wines from Italy.

The maximum recognition had gotten in the July of the 1980, while since the July of the 1966 it had stayed recognized the D.O.C. and they had stayed fix the norms of production:

  • the production is limited to a maximum of 80 quintals to hectare,

  • the real surrender is limited to a maximum of the 70% after a period of aging, in strokes of wood, of two years,

  • the vines and the aging must stay necessarily in the commune of origin,

  • each quantity of wine must be subjected to the judgment of a ministerial errand.



Only after all this, if the quantity of wine will have retained fit, it will confer upon of the denomination "Noble Wine of Montepulciano D.O.C.G.".

Physical characteristics

  • Color: Pomegranate more or less intense.

  • Perfume: Delicate and intense with sign of sweet violet.

  • Taste: Dry and savory, full, with pleasant bitterish aftertaste.

  • Final feeling: Wine of race, aroma express good of long persistence.
