Cortona - The Castle of Pierle

Valley of Pierle .....

..... and the ruins of the homonym castle

The Fortress of Pierle had built from the Cortonesi in the 1300, above a preceding feudal castle, from Francesco Casali on plan of Raniero Casali.

The Fortress defended Cortona from the Perugia enemy, but, more that for the battles, the castle of Pierle has remembered for the slaughter of conspirators that happened in the 1387 for hand of Uguccio Casali.

The castle was destroyed in the 1587 from the Granduca from Tuscany Francesco dei Medici for avoid that the enemies of Florence find in him any shelter.
